Amp's owner, Neil Chandler, plays an unprecedented role at the gym with his extensive background in fitness, Budo and Martial Arts. He offers studies in numerous disciplines including but not limited to Aikido, Jujutsu, Ninpo, Thai Boxing, Combatives, Self Defense and Reiki. He also specializes in meditation and self-hypnosis for athletes, primarily for removing limitations and providing pain relief from sport-related injuries.


Amp offers a wide variety of Martial Arts practices and Self Defense training.

Samurai JuJutsu

The Byakko Budo Kai (White Tiger Martial Arts Academy) teaches authentic Samurai Arts focusing on Ko Ryu (old school) Ju Jutsu. It is categorized as a Hei Ho, which means complete warrior system. 

 

The many skills taught are not martial arts in their modern forms. The Academy has no concern with multi-colored belts, demonstrations, competition, or trophies, etc. Instead, focus is on training the heart/mind and character of the individual while learning a realistic skill set that allows one to survive a sudden, unprovoked violent assault. The Academy is only one of a handful of schools teaching skills that are not watered down for sports or public consumption/entertainment. Our goal is the indomitable spirit. 

 

Knowledge passed from teacher to student comes directly from Densho. Densho are ancient scrolls that contain the knowledge about techniques, strategies, and training methods that have been supplemented continuously over centuries and passed down through generations. 

 

Many authentic Samurai schools make up the Byakko Budo system. The common thread that holds the system together is the martial and spiritual philosophy of the Shinden Fudo Ryu (School of the Unshakeable Heart). It is one of the oldest schools of Yawara (Ju Jutsu) founded in 1130 CE. The academy teaches a complete warrior education. Beginning students learn breakfalls, throws, joint locking, striking, footwork, ground fighting, kicking, special methods of walking and running, along with strategy, meditation, and many other skills. The training system works the opposite of traditional martial arts, which attempt to mold the student into a stylized or predetermined pattern of movement. The goal of authentic Warrior Training is to remove bad habits and strip away awkward and unnatural ways of moving, returning to relaxed natural movement. The combat techniques take advantage of natural physical construction and efficient employment of body dynamics. Technical movements are understood through the five elemental manifestations:

 

  • Chi (Earth)
  • Sui (Water)
  • Ka (Fire)
  • Fu (Wind/Air)
  • Ku (Ether/Void)

 

These relaxed natural movements provide the foundation for training with the sword, staff, knife, and various other weapons in the system.

STUDENTS WILL LEARN STRIKING, THROWING, WRESTLING, AND SUBMISSION TECHNIQUES ALONG WITH ROLLS, BREAKFALLS, AND OTHER INJURY PREVENTION SKILLS. MEDIATION AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION SKILLS ARE TAUGHT AT AGE APPROPRIATE LEVELS.
